Ch. 53 One Less Red Fish

6/28/16

I try not to tell people that I have a sister. It's not an issue of pride or embarrassment, I just don't want them to know. The moment they meet her or even see a picture of her, the comparison begins.

Their looks of surprise are obvious: "How did such an awkward looking dude get made with same ingredients as this ginger goddess?" and if they're males, "is she single?"

I couldn't be happier to say that SHE'S NOW MARRIED! Suck on that angsty friends who always had crushes on her!

My sister is completely off the market and it's a huge relief. Not as if she was previously thought to be a future crazy cat lady (I've happily assumed that role), but there's an infectious happiness that emanates from a woman who has just married the right guy.

On Saturday Lili tied the knot with someone so right, it's inconceivable. Even as my mother read aloud a list of 13-year old Lili's perfect guy, Eric eclipsed every deliverable by 100 fold.

So, angsty friends of my upbringing, let's see how you stack up to a guy who can simultaneously beat you up and down the mountain on a bike, listen intently to the needs of others, shotgun beer with his thumb, do crossfit with a weighted vest, humbly solve for the needs of others, dominate the interwebs for a badass outdoor company, and cook a homemade meal that puts Portland chefs to shame. Sorry friends, but you're coming up short for my sister.

When we were little, Lili made me sleep on her floor to protect her from monsters that prevented a good night's sleep. Not too long ago, I was sent to Sun Valley and instructed to report back to the parental units - how's Bell, is Lili taking care of herself, the list went on. In more recent times, my Dad routinely insisted that I check the oil of Lili's car.

I felt very accountable for her back then, but the truth is, she's now self sufficient; Bell is well-trained, her hair is still red (some things you can't change), and she can check her own oil. Having said all that, nothing helps me sleep better than knowing Eric will be sleeping on the floor.
